My BIGGEST Eye Opener!

WOW! It never sank in - all these years of studdying food & nutrition, Indulging in my hidden hobby of surgery & medicine, being a guinnea pig in my girlfriends esthetics course (students, wax, bikini line - BAD IDEA!!!) certifying myself in HACCP & WHMIS and nothing. I never put two and two together, not even when the OB told me I could not use pain cream for my back or my, neck, legs, arms ANYWHERE during the brutal 37 weeks of a challenging pregnancy! It was not until this journey, that I really clued into the fact that our skin is the LARGEST organ on our body - and it is a DIRECT link to our blood stream *The Birth Control or Nicoderm Patch* how was I soooo clueless?
The sad thing is, most of us are! Most of us are just learning to read lables in our food and the many other things we put into our bodies because we are developing poision sensativities, like a Gluten intollerance; 99% of the population reacts to gluten - of that atleast 25% in Canada and the US feel pain & discomfort. Only 5% of the population are actually Celiac and it is a Genetic predisposition! A lot of this pain and discomfort is our body reacting to the chemicals our crops are sprayed with because we have been over-exposed to them; the same goes for a lot of fruit allergies (apples are not meant to be THAT shiny and have NO bug holes - if they wont go near it, why will we?).
Now zip back to our skin - we apply shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, brush our teeth with tap water (flouride is in all our Ontario tap water), put on moisturizer and make-up, deoderant and hair products. Maybe we shaved our legs in the shower with that slippery shave gel/foam. We spray perfume & 'leave on' cleaning sprays on our shower walls and ceiling & that is JUST in the first hour of our day. How many chemichals did we just lather in our hands, breathe in, have land on our shoulders, purposefully spray on our hair/cheecks/neck & wrists? The answer is TOO MANY TO COUNT!
Now we are late & running out the door without breakfast, so we stop at a 'drive through' because we are FAMISHED and grab a bagel, cream cheese and a coffee with Sweetner? Hate to tell you but there are chemichals in EVERYTHING except the coffee until you added that sweetner!
You run to the bathroom when you get to work to wash the bagel grease off your hands before smearing it all over your colleagues and decide on an additional 2 pumps of soap. Twenty minutes into your day you notice how irritated your hands feel, they are dry and you slather some cheap vaseline lotion on your hands that you keep at your desk because why buy the good stuff - everyone just comes and uses yours without askin. An hour later and theres a weird film on your keyboard/hands/phone & desk - better go wash your hands again but twice this time because the mineral oils & petroleum jelly in the lotion are hard to get off! Oh well, time for your next coffee break, you can cheat with some purell when they feel super dry in the starbucks line, I mean it does have added aloe in the purse sized one you just bought!
This is just a sample, of a typical fall day for an adverage woman in her late 20's / early 30's without kids - or the handwashing would have been compulsive! Can you imagine how many chemicals she has come into contact with between 7am & 10:30am?
